Hi I am George
Raised in Nova Scotia, I bring over 15 years of experience in fine woodworking. As the owner of a small but well-equipped, fine shop, I specialize in wood design, custom creations, and unique pieces, ranging from small items to larger works like custom furniture and fireplace mantels with built-in bookcases.
I take pride in crafting beautiful everyday items such as boxes, bowls, cutting boards, coasters, and small figures. Additionally, I design and build custom furniture and store fixtures with a focus on classic styles like the Morris chair and Titanic deck chairs.
All of my wood is sourced from local sawmills and sustainably managed plantations. Some of my favorite woods to work with include maple, poplar, white oak, yellow birch, and African mahogany. I strive to create pieces that are both period-appropriate and timeless, using the natural beauty of wood to enhance every design.
“Woodworking is the quiet art of shaping time and nature with patient hands, where every grain tells a story and every cut reveals a little more beauty”
The Woodworking Difference
Woodworking products—especially handcrafted ones—offer a very different experience from mass-produced items. The advantages go far beyond just looks:
Authenticity & Uniqueness
No two pieces of wood are ever the same. Grain patterns, knots, and color variations create one-of-a-kind objects.
Mass production aims for uniformity; woodworking celebrates individuality.
Natural Beauty That Evolves
Real wood has depth, warmth, and character that synthetic materials can’t replicate. Over time, it develops a patina—subtle changes in tone and texture that make the piece even more beautiful with use.
Craftsmanship & Artistic Value
Handmade wooden pieces carry the mark of the maker. Every curve, edge, and finish reflects skill, intention, and experience—turning everyday objects into functional art rather than just products.
Quality & Durability
Well-crafted wooden items are built to last. Unlike many factory-made goods designed for short lifecycle, solid wood pieces can endure for years—or generations—with proper care.
Sustainability & Environmental Impact
When responsibly sourced, wood is a renewable material. Small-scale woodworking often uses less energy and creates less waste than industrial production, especially compared to plastics or composites.
Tactile Experience
Wood feels alive in your hands—warm, smooth, and organic. This sensory quality makes daily use more enjoyable compared to cold, uniform, machine-made materials.
Repairability & Longevity
Scratches can be sanded out, finishes refreshed, and pieces restored. Instead of replacing an item, you can maintain and extend its life.
Connection to Nature
Wood products carry a sense of place and origin. They bring a piece of the natural world into everyday life—something mass-produced items often lack.
In short, mass production gives you consistency and convenience. Woodworking gives you character, story, and soul..
